One thing I feel most passionately about in life is travel. Everyone should do it. And I don’t necessarily mean spending thousands to fly to the other side of the world. Even seeing somewhere new in your own country, your own area, is worth doing. It opens your eyes to new sights, new experiences. Travel can really enrich your life.
I love to travel. I love visiting new places, experiencing others’ cultures, and trying new foods. One of the things I most love to do when visiting other countries is taking a break from the tourist attractions and visiting a supermarket, for example, or any other place where I can catch a glimpse of day-to-day life.
I often say I have FOMO (fear of missing out) and I really do when it comes to travelling. I want to see every place in every country. I want to do every thing there is to do every where. And I have FOMO because I know that it’s not possible to see every single place in the world and live a million different lives in these countries. So I'm doing the best I can. I try to travel as much as possible and see and do as much as I can to quell the FOMO.
One feature of my website, you'll soon come to realise, is organisation. My day job as a lawyer requires a lot of organisation and time management, but to be honest I’ve been organised since way before I was a lawyer. In my pursuit of seeing and doing everything the world has to offer, I’ve found my organisational skills to be a useful tool.
I love lists. I love making lists, I love ticking things off lists, I love reading lists. My favourite lists are lists of places to visit, sights to see, restaurants to eat at (food is a main focus of my trips). I love schedules, I love plans, and my favourite plans and schedules are trip itineraries detailing where we’re going and what we’re doing there. Now don’t get me wrong - I don’t mind a bit of spontaneity and there have definitely been places I’ve visited where the best thing to do is just explore! But I’m a firm believer in making the most of the place you’re visiting and for me that means having a plan (or at least a rough idea of what you’re doing).
This website originally started life as a ProjectsAbroad blog when I spent 8 weeks in China in 2014. I loved having something to look back on so I could reminisce about what I got up to. As time went on, this thought occurred more and more and I eventually set up my WordPress blog, Adventures of Lucy, in 2017. This year I decided to take the plunge and set up a website of my own to chronicle my travels and - when I’m not travelling - my other travel-related musings. So if you want a detailed account of my latest trip, or you’re just looking for some quick recommendations for your next trip away, you’ve come to the right place.
